Townsville Townsville pledges for safety on Fatality Free Friday

Fatality Free Friday was marked in a big way in Townsville with the city becoming the first regional centre to hold an 'empty shoes' display on Fatality Free Friday.

The event was showcased by guest speakers from Queensland Police and Townsville City Council and featured a display of 331 pairs of shoes - each one representing a person killed on Queensland roads during 2009.

Local media as well as the community showed strong interest in the event held at Strand Park.
