Brisbane 'Empty Shoes' Display
Dozens of volunteers worked from before dawn to prepare the Fatality Free Friday ‘empty shoes’ display at Brisbane’s Reddacliff Place. More than 1500 pairs of shoes, representing the lives of men, women and children cut short through road crashes in Australia last year, provided a graphic reminder of the human cost of road trauma. Breakfast Road Safety Seminar by FFF Alliance Partner
Fatality Free Friday alliance partners Olpac hosted a breakfast seminar on May 21 for Redland City Council Main Roads Depot to promote driver safety and Fatality Free Friday.The event is one of a series of activities undertaken by Fatality Free Friday sponsors and supporters to promote the national road safety day which takes place on 28 May 2010.
Olpac directors, Robert Cochrane and Glenn Robertson spoke on health and safety issues relating to seat belt use and alcohol use while Fatality Free Friday founder Russell White addressed the gathering about the Fatality Free Friday event. Local SES volunteers manned the barbecues for the morning for the cooked breakfast.
Fatality Free Friday Gets Bass Coast Support
In 2008, 32 people died and 363 more were seriously injured on Gippsland roads. Bass Coast Road Safety Committee has a long-term commitment to reducing the local road toll, introducing a number of innovative projects to help raise awareness and increase driving skills. These include the L2P and New Arrivals Driver Education programs. One of the most confronting and successful initiatives was the Crash Vehicle project, officially launched in September. In conjunction with Townsville's Graduate School of Motoring, they have secured Strand Park on the beachfront for a FFF event beginning at 7am. They'll have vehicles on display, a sausage sizzle, attendance by the Mayor and local TV and radio coverage plus a display of 331 pairs of shoes, one for each road fatality in Queensland last year.

Townsville Council To Launch Safety Program For Employees On Fatality Free Friday
Debut of driver safety training program for council employees will take place on 28 May 2010 to coincide with FFF. Manager Troy Greenwood says Council is one of Townsville’s largest fleet owners and program will train drivers in techniques to be better operators and reduce the incidence of other work related driver issues such as back and neck complaints and fatigue. Children 'Disappear' In Road Safety Demonstration
On Friday 21 May 2010, children 'disappeared' in a dramatic demonstration of vehicle blind spots. In Queensland alone, 18 children have been run over and killed, and a further 196 have been seriously injured, in low speed vehicle incidents in the past five years.
